Sabik - After the promotion of Globetrotters to the 6th division, they signed up for Kirovgrad - Sabik. This is a race over rough terrain, which is very suitable for Globetrotters captain Tom Batenburg.
The race started and a group fled the peloton. But with 35 km to go Globetrotters quickened the pace of the peloton. The rough terrain took the best out of most riders in the bunch. "Odd Hopland had great legs today and we all felt it," homerider Pavel Ostrovsky from PAN said (he still finished 5th). The peloton quickly got back to the breakaway and Globetrotters continued the fast pace.
With 10 km to go Hopland was out of breath and had to let go of the bunch, which consisted of only 12 riders. Batenburg was alone. He knew he would win the sprint so the others would attack. He had to go after all the riders who tried to escape. But only two riders tried, because Batenburg kept the pace high.
With 2 km to go the group consisted of no more than 6 riders. Batenburg stopped his pacemaking and got to the back of the group. Klaudian Filipiak of you team tried to flick the opposition, and escaped, but Batenburg catched him 20 meters from the finish. Batenburg passed him and was able to celebrate the victory. "It was hard, because all the others rode against me. the closer we got the the finish the more confident I got." His team leader Bjarne Skofterud was euphoric and yelled: "This was the best race my team did, period!"
This win lead to another promotion, to the 5th division this is. "I'm glad I could help the team. I will now have a training period and after I will return even stronger." Tom Batenburg said.
